Volunteering at Holme Farm

Article 29: Education should develop respect for other people’s human rights and should develop children’s respect for the environment

Holme Farm is a registered charity bringing the community together to convert a disused farm in Woodham, Surrey into a hub to support local people, promote mental wellbeing and biodiversity.

The children in Key Stage 2 have been visiting the farm, helping out with weeding, watering, painting and taking part in craft activities since April 2024. They have gained so much from their experience, building on their understanding of how they can make a difference in their own community and promote the rights of others.

Article 12: Every child has the right to be heard and have their views taken seriously

In October 2024, the school were invited to meet with the Young Mayor of Surrey supported by Elaine Gill, Mayor of Runnymede. Plans are in place for the Young Mayor and Elaine Gill to visit Meath to talk to the children about how they can be effective change-makers in their own ways.
