Article 12: Every child has the right to be listened to and have their views taken seriously
We had a VERY exciting visitor in September! Dr Ben Spencer MP for Weybridge and Runnymede came into school to visit Swan Class. Last term the children in Swan Class wrote to him campaigning against food poverty and asking questions about how the Government are tackling the issue. He listened carefully to the children’s thoughts and questions, answering them and explaining how he is working to change things. He also brought the letter he had written in response to ours.
It was such an amazing and proud moment to see our children speaking out against something they feel so strongly about. The proof is in the pudding of the impact our Rights Respecting Journey is having on the whole school. We were extremely lucky to have him visit us and he has promised to write again in response to any other questions or issues we may have.
The children made their voices heard again when Lord Touhig, Labour Peer, visited school in October. After touring the school, he visited Swan Class to hear about the concerns the children have linked with the cost of living crisis which they have been talking about in Points of View. He listened carefully to all their points and questions and is keen to hear from the children again with any ideas they may have for making a change.
