Cracking News – Chicks Hatch at Meath School!
There was much excitement in the school office this week. The children had the incredible opportunity to watch new life emerge right before their eyes.
The incubator arrived several weeks ago, and fertilized eggs were carefully placed inside to keep warm. The children visited the incubator and checked the developmental stage of the embryo using a chart – marking off the days one by one until … this week when the long-awaited moment arrived! Tiny cracks appeared on the eggshells, and the chicks slowly made their way into the world. Not so fluffy at first but soon puffing up beautifully and finding their voices.
The newly hatched chicks are now being kept in a cosy brooder, where they are receiving plenty of warmth, food, and gentle care from staff and children. Under careful supervision the children have been helping to make sure their new feathered friends are safe and comfortable. It has been a joy to watch how patient and gentle the children can be.
A huge thank you goes to Sue and Nigel who, every Spring, provide the equipment, eggs and expertise needed to give the children this unforgettable experience.
